The orientation control of blue phase liquid crystals (BPLCs) is important for their device applications. However, due to the complex molecular arrangement, it is difficult to obtain uniform domains or giant single crystals, and appropriate orientation techniques have not yet been developed. In this study, we focus on the phase transition from cholesteric phase to BPI and find that the phase transition is induced by regions with locally increased elastic energy, such as Grandjean-Cano disclinations. We also demonstrated the control of BPI nucleation position and BPI orientation region by using this property.
