Geochemical analysis of the bottom sediments of Nakaumi Lagoon and Honjo Area in Shimane and Tottori prefectures of southwest Japan was conducted to determine their trace and major element concentrations, and to assess the potential for ecological harm by comparison with sediment quality guidelines.
