Abstract
In the peroxide cure of ethylene-propylene rubber, the ratio of the cross linking to the main chain scission at propylene units was measured by means of the stress relaxation method. And the effects of curing additives, such as sulfur, p-quinone dioxime and N, N'-m-phenylene bismaleimide, on the inhibition of the scission of the chain, were studied.
It was found from the results that the extent of the main chain scission for EPDM is smaller than that for EPM, and that the abilities of various additives to inhibit the scission of the main chain were in the order of N. N'-m-phenylene bismaleimide>sulfur>p-quinone dioxime.
