Organic scintillators consist of mainly aromatic hydrocarbon compounds containing linked or condensed benzene-ring strucuture. In gerenral, they exhibit fast decay due to the transition of π electron in the benzene-ring structure, thus they can be used in various applications such as diffractrometry, age measurement and high count rate measurement. Organic scintilaltors are categorized into several types: crystal scintillators, liquid scintillators and plastic scintillators. In this special topic, I introduce basic and applications of organic scintilaltors, including commonly used compounds, scintillation mechanism and examples of the applicaitons.
