This study proposes an advanced oxidation process to rapidly decompose organic compounds in treatment water. In existing advanced oxidation processes, two •OHs, used as oxidizing agents, are often consumed to produce H2O2 without decomposing organic compounds. Our proposed process uses a combined ozone/plasma system with plasma in bubbles. The combined ozone/plasma system uses the O3 and H2O2 reaction to produce •OH. Nondimensional simulation implied that the decomposing rate would be maximized by equalizing the increasing rates of the dissolved O3 and H2O2 concentration. Organic compounds in waste water B, with a total organic carbon (TOC) concentration of 1180 mg/L, were almost completely eliminated in 480 minutes via the combined ozone/plasma treatment. The decomposition rate was 1.46×10-1 gTOC/L/h and the decomposition efficiency was 2.85×10-1 gTOC/kWh. However, the decomposition and efficiency rates are expected to increase by improving the utilization rate of O3 and optimizing plasma conditions.
