This is a report on the development of a new library at Osaka Rosai Hospital. The new library is designed to serve the entire hospital, and is intended to be a local medical information center in the future. By reviewing the history of hospital libraries, we have attempted to ascertain what is required in a new library. Starting with the basic concept of a library, we have modified the management methods, facilities, and services. As a result, unlike a conventional establishment, the new library has begun to play its own intrinsic role in the hospital community.
