Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to investigate how the narrative approach could be useful for listeners utilizing oral interpretation. For this purpose, interviewing was used to collect data from nine Japanese who participated in an English-to-Japanese mediated lecture held at a local community center. The interviews were analyzed using a narrative approach and revealed that different users would use the same words to describe their own experiences of interpretation, although the meanings that each user gave the words was slightly different due to their own individual differences. This suggests that such differences in meaning could only be brought to light through a detailed analysis of their narratives.
