It is a matter of great concern to establish the code system tabulating the operation names for processing data aquired from surgical procedures. The installation of this code should be applied easily by medical staffs and clerks. According to Ko-Hyo Operation Name Classification of Govermental Health Insurance Fund, most of items are expressed numerically in three or four digits except semi-standard iteme. Therefore, these exceptions and newly developed procedure names are coded alphanumerically by us and, herewith, a new operation code system is proposed.By means of this code system, we analyzed 96128 of total operation names performed on 53423 cases at our department for the last thirteen years. We recognized this code system could be applied to every data processing in the operation center. We found that only small number of codes could cover most of all. This observation suggests that we can propose more easy input system than ordinary type-writer data entry.
