Abstract

"Three-sided thermography" and "Panoramic thermography" are new thermographic techniques to record the temperature distributions over various sides of a subject's surface as a developmental image at one time and have many advantages to compensate the weak points in conventional thermography. Especially, the later is a new thermographic imaging technique with unique characteristics. The authors have investigated experimentally the pattern characteristics and the features of these methods using some types of thermal pattern models. The results have proved the following characteristics : In the theree-sided thermography, not only the lateral sides of a subject from various directions, but also the back side of the subject can be observed corresponding from the reflector angle to the median plane. In the panoramic thermography, the magnification of the panoramic image on the developmental axis can be varied with the coverage of the subject, which is applicable for detailed examination of thermograms. In this method the optical axis of a thermocamera will not always differ so much from the perpendicular axis on the target and thus, more accurate data can be obtained than conventional method. Since the entire or a wide coverage of the subject is available, the error of thermal abnormalities can be eliminated and they are superior to a conventional method in the pattern analysis of thermograms, etc.,
