This testing machine was developed from the necessity of testing the strength of oil sand. The surfaces of two of the same specimen for the AFA compression strength test are rubbed each other and from the amount of rubbed out material and the energy necessitated for rubbing a fixed quantity, the compression, tensile and bending strength for the moulding sand can be calculated. The above method is not only simpler but also quicker and more accurate than the usual strength testing method. Also the strength at the surface and at any depth of moulding sand specimen can be obtained. Further more as the stability of the mould and core which we are most interested in is revealed, the practicability of this method to the foundry engineers is very great.
