In order to observe the effecting mechanism of collapse therapy of pulmonary tuberculosis from the stand point of organism's defense, the changes of tuberculostatic activity of blood of tuberculous patients were observed in pre- and post-operation periods by the method of slide cell culture, and at the same time, the corelationships between the reaction and other organism of pulmonary tuberculosis reaction (the functions of leucocytes) were studied.
1) About the changes of tuberculostatic activity of blood in pre- and post-operation periods, in the cases of thoracoplasty and pulmonary resection, the tuberculostatic activity began to increase in about 3 days and gradually reached the pre-operative state in 21 to 28 days after the operation. This phenomenon was not concerned with application of SM. The increase of tuberculostatic activity in the cases of thoracoplasty was more remarkable than in the cases of pulmonary resection. In the cases of artificial pneumothorax, the tuberculostatic activity increased slightly 3 to 9 hours after the first operation, but in the repeated operation the change was not observed. In the cases of artificial pneumoperitoneum, the tuberculostatic activity decreased. In the other surgical operations, the tuberculostatic activity generally decreased after operation and reached the pre-operative state in 21 days.
2) About the changes of functions of neutrophile leucocytes of pulmonary tuberculosis in preand post-operation period, in the cases of thoracoplasty, pulmonary resection and other surgical operations, the migration velocity and the phagocytosis began to decrease in 3 days and reached pre-operative state in 14 to 21 days.
3) In collapse therapy of pulmonary tuberculosis, the tuberculostatic activity increased, but the functions of leucocytes decreased, there was no relation observed between the tuberculostatic activity and the function of leucocytes.
