Abstract

Degradation of picture quality for moving images displayed on hold type displays and the improving method of the degradation are discussed. When moving images are displayed on hold type displays, such as TFT-LCD displays, which sustain light intensity in a field period of video signal, the image quality is degraded, or the images are perceived as blurred. The cause of the degradation is the sustained light. So picture quality improvement cannot be attained only by to fasten transient response time of LCDs. There are two approaches to improve the degradation. One is to shorten the hold time by a shutter etc. The another is double field-rate displaying with motion compensated field interpolation.
