Abstract

Separation from the people they love causes stress in children and weakens their natural healing capabilities. The Connectionless Communication System(CCS)aims to provide sick children with a new means of communication that can help them with their emotional and medical challenges. The CCS is a videophone network communication system that can provide a child with an Internet link to his/her family's home under conditions of unlimited access. Young patients at the National Children's Hospital and the National Okura Hospital in Tokyo, Japan have been using a cyberspace-based network communication system that includes the CCS system since October 1999. This paper studies on the system's effects on children ; it's usability and the effectiveness of the CCS as a communication system for hospitalized children.
