Abstract
As digital television transmission becomes ubiquitous, a method for remote monitoring of transmitted picture quality is needed. Promising for this is the RR scheme, where image features are extracted and transmitted for comparison between the transmitter and the receiver side. We propose a novel RR scheme, SSWHT-RRR, which estimates PSNR. This scheme performs spread-spectrum on original and received signals, followed by orthogonal transform and extraction and transmission of transform coefficients. Spread-spectrum enables precise estimation of PSNR even if the number of extracted coefficients is small. Walsh-Hadamard transform is used as orthogonal transform for easy implementation.
