A Questionnaire Study of ICT Ability and Media Literacy of 2012 Freshmen

Abstract

Information Media center of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology take place ”university information seminars for freshmen”in every April(the first month of fiscal year). In the seminar of this year, using a questionnaire to all freshmen, the authors evaluated the way of learning in their high school age, the degree of acquisition of the skills of ICT devices and the level of media literacy. As a result, it was found that their ability did not cover the goals of the educational subject ”Information Studies”of Japanese National Curriculum guideline for high school. Their ability, also, was insufficient to the ability of utilization of ICT devices which is needed in university student daily life. They had a lack of the ability of setting up own PC, and they did not know the term of ”media literacy”and they did not learn the statistics.
