Wound retraction technique in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for a morbidly obese patient

Abstract

Morbid obesity is one of the technical pitfalls in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). We used a Wound Retractor (Applied Medical, USA) to keep away the thick subcutaneous adipose tissue in VATS for a morbidly obese patient. It was useful to thin out the chest wall of the patient, and made it straightforward to apply the VATS devices to the thoracic cavity.
