International Nuclear Information System (INIS) has been operated for 16 years by IAEA in collaboration with 74 member states and 14 international organizations. The number of items collected in the INIS database amounts to one million by May 1986. Some statistical information of the database covering period 19811985 is given itemized by input country, subject area, literature type and language. Also described here are input forms, and three types of output products, that is, printed INIS Atomindex, INIS magnetic tape and INIS microfiche. Summaries are given on INIS information retrieval services in Japan, some other countries, and IAEA.
In 1985 "Definition of Membership Arrangements for INIS" was established and a project named "General Review of INIS Operations" initiated. Some topics of the review are mentioned on subject scope, timeliness of input, data flagging, and assistance to developing countries in input processing and output utilization.
