Abstract
Kitchen exhaust odor has been recognized to be the typical offensive odor in urbane areas. So, the photocatalytic technology was tried to reduce the odor. A photocatalytic filter was made of the porous ceramic body coated with TiO2, and had a three-dimensional network structure. Additionally, the chemically stabilized nano-sized Ag particle was superimposed on the surface of TiO2. The used offensive odor was kitchen exhaust from Chinese restaurant. After some experiments were performed to confirm the basic removal characteristics of the filter to hydrogen sulfide, which was the main odor compound contained in the kitchen exhaust from Chinese restaurant, the odor control apparatus with the filer was constructed and operated. The results showed that the photocatalytic filter with the nano-sized Ag particle might have the potential applicability to reduce kitchen exhaust odor from Chinese restaurant.
