Rock magnetic measurements have been made on sediment cores from Taihu Lake on the Yangtze Delta, East China. They have been used for sediment stratigraphy and core-core correlations. The study shows that the down core variations of magnetic properties are mainly the result of changes in particle size constitution. The peaks of magnetic profiles are associated with the finer sediment layers, indicating a less rainy climate, which is further confirmed by the pollen data.
