[Objective] Many patients with dementia exhibit behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) that significantly affect not only them, but also their families and caregivers. This study aims to contribute to the advancement of the relevant research by showing the international trends in BPSD in a systematic way. [Methods] To achieve that, quantitative analysis was conducted using the bibliometric software CiteSpace. [Results] Analysis, which focused on the authors of the cited research, revealed a relatively significant influence of the work of Cummings on the trends. Furthermore, a paper by Kales et al., published in 2015, on the assessment and management of Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia, was the most cited. [Conclusion] The paper that proposed non-pharmacological therapy as the primary choice, by Kales et al. (2015) had the most visible impact on the trends in the field. This suggests a shift in the paradigm by promoting the transition from the pharmacological to the non-pharmacological treatments, particularly through the involvement of the family caregivers.
