Influence of R&D capability on the formulation of the external knowledge network

Empirical study on patents and technology-in in the petrochemical industry

Abstract

This study demonstrates the influence of patents on the formulation of firms' external network. The prior research indicates that patents are an index of a firm's research and development (R&D) capability for product innovation. We employ a network analysis using a panel data from the petrochemical industry. In addition, this research also employs a statistical analysis using the index from the network analysis and firm data. The result shows that high R&D capabilities'firm has the external organizational network of technology-in that has a characteristic of high knowledge diverseness and knowledge acquisition efficiency.
