Abstract

With the development of the Internet, information technology has made remarkable progress in recent years. As a result, the volume of available information has also increased tremendously. Information overload occurs when an organization's information processing capacity cannot cope with the volume of information intake. Organizational learning in a state of information overload may have various effects on the organization. This study focuses on information overload in organizations, rather than in individuals, which has been the focus of most previous studies. In extant research, empirical evidence of information overload has been mainly based on questionnaire data. In this study, we examine the possibility of demonstrating organizational information overload with publicly available archival data by reviewing extant literature.
