Identification of "pride" as a clue to the future succession of the Sunamachi Ginza shopping street

Abstract

The Sunamachi Ginza shopping street in Tokyo is full of vitality. However, the aging of visitors and business owners is making it difficult to maintain the current form in terms of hardware. It is considered important to incorporate the "pride" of the shopping street into the design when passing on the shopping street into the future while preserving its inherent value, but it is not clear how to select such a design. The purpose of this study is to examine the process of selecting "pride" by focusing on the Sunamachi Ginza shopping street. Through interviews with visitors and others, we will provide insight into how to sustain the shopping street.
