DIFFUSION IN LIQUID CHAIN POLYMERS

Abstract

A set of simple equations has been proposed previously which correlate the diffusivities of non-polymeric and polymeric molecules in polymeric medium to easily measurable quantities such as viscosity, temperature and molecular weight. These equations are further examined in this work by the use of literature data. The literature data of polydimethylsiloxane system and polystyrene system of various molecular weights show good agreement with theory. It is also shown that the constants which appear in the equation for the two-component system and those for the one-component system are the same in order of magnitude.
