Initial Stage Sintering of Spherical Silica

Abstract

The initial stage sintering of spherical silica compacts was carried out. The resultant data were well described with both Frenkel and Kuczynski's equations rate-controlled by viscous flow. The viscosity obtained was 10^11-12 poise. The activation energies for the sintering were 10, 43.2 and 34.1kcal/mol for the powders calcined at 400°, 600° and 800°C respectively. The values were lower than those found in the references.
