Abstract

The initial stage sintering of spherical silica compacts was carried out. The resultant data were well described with both Frenkel and Kuczynski's equations rate-controlled by viscous flow. The viscosity obtained was 1011-12 poise. The activation energies for the sintering were 10, 43.2 and 34.1kcal/mol for the powders calcined at 400°, 600° and 800°C respectively. The values were lower than those found in the references.
