Abstract
As severe corrosion occurs in ballast tanks of oil tankers due to ballasting sea-water, cathodic protection using Mg anode is prevailing widely in recent years as the most effective and economical means against it, and is used in more than 100 oil tankers in our country today.
In this report, (1) life and current output, (2) achieved potential and its distribution, (3) hydrogen evolution of Mg anode (especially of type 52 T & 15S), which were left unknown or wanted in actual data, are analysed from numerical values taken from tankers in service during the last 5-6years.
