Abstract

In a structure in which substructures with greatly different masses and stiffnesses are coupled, such as a building and a steel tower built above it, height-wise distribution of mass and stiffness of the entire structure vary significantly. In such structures, it has been pointed out that when resonance with the substructure below occurs, the seismic response of the upper substructure increases significantly. This study proposes the application of a tuned viscous mass damper as a measure for seismic response control of such structures. In this paper, as a basic study, we have constructed an analysis model applying a tuned viscous mass damper to a tower-building coupled structure, to conducted a case study.
