Abstract
We report a case of melorheostosis in the foot. The patient was a 22-year-old woman who complained of pain of the right foot when she presented in 2003. Radiographs showed sclerotic changes in the right foot (the second and third metatarsal and lateral cuneiform). Bone scintigrams with 99mTc-MDP disclosed increased uptake in radiologically abnormal areas. These bony changes corresponded to the S1 segment of a sclerotome. Segmental distribution of hyperostosis implies damage to a segment of the neural crest during embryogenesis.
