Involving Students in Designing Library Futures

The KnowledgeLab is a pilot space at Smith College Libraries for students to experiment with the library of the future. Smith students direct many aspects of the KnowledgeLab, including events, programs, and the furniture selection for the space. In this article we discuss the genesis of the space, planning for experimentation in the context of a larger library redesign project, and present case studies of two major student-led events.
