Aluminum foams are ultralight materials with high energy absorption. Therefore, they should be usable as shock absorbers in automobiles. However, when the aluminum foam absorbs impact energy, it is difficult to restore its initial shape. If densified aluminum foam can be refoamed easily, it should be possible to reuse the aluminum foam. In this study, a preliminary study of the reproducibility of aluminum foam was performed. Closed-cell aluminum foam with porosity of approximately 80% was fabricated by a melt route. It was found that aluminum foam containing blowing agent can be fabricated while retaining the blowing agent. Closed-cell aluminum foam with porosity of approximately 70% could also be reproduced by the heat treatment of the densified aluminum foam containing the blowing agent.
