There is a long argument that vulnerability against strong wind in uneven-aged forests is less than that in even-aged forests, but few scientific evidences have been found yet. Such limited findings do not sufficiently lead to the conclusions of beneficial aspects in uneven-aged forests in order to reduce wind damage, although managing uneven-aged forests has been sometimes recommended in terms of wind damage. To reduce the future wind damage risk in forests, therefore, finding the fundamental phenomena and characteristics based on vertical structures in forests would contribute to making better decisions for forest management. We currently analyze the data of boreal even- and uneven-aged forests damaged by a storm in 2006, Quebec, Canada, from Waldron et al. (2013) and Bergeron (2007). We will present some arguments of even- and uneven-aged forests associated with wind damage and give an introduction of our new research in the boreal heterogeneous forests.
