Tobacco Control in New Tobacco Era

Abstract

 In Japan, heated tobacco products (HTPs) are rapidly becoming popular and more than 10% of the adult population already used HTPs. Based on the information currently available, the health risk of HTPs is not lower than that of combustible cigarettes. Instead of treating HTPs as an exception (for example, in the Health Promotion Act revised in 2018), we need to strongly promote tobacco control measures and smoking cessation support in every setting.
