Abstract
It has been hitherto believed that in the nystagmus on removal of one labyrinth or by compensation, contraction of the eye-muscles is greatest in the horinzontali, next greatest in the verticali and least in the obliqui, but the cause of this has not yet been discovered.
The following results were obtained from the authors' experiments.
1) The contraction of the eye-muscles themselves is greatest in the verticali, next greatest in the horinzontali and least in the obliquii.
2) The order of strength in which the eye-muscles are affected by the central irritation is 1, horinzontali 2, obliquii, 3, verticali.
3) The diagonal direction of the nystagmus after removal of one labyrinth or by compensation is due to the contractive ability of the eye-muscles themselves and to the central irritation.
