Immediate Reconstruction after Lower Lip Resection for Cancer

Abstract

It is known that lip cancer is rarer in the Japanese than in the Europeans and Americans. When we treat lip cancer surgically, it is important to reconstruct the lip preserving its function and appearance.
We recently treated an 82-year-old male with cancer of the lower lip (T2NOMO) and immediately reconstructed the defect by a modification of Bernard's method, obtaining good cosmetic and functional results. He is free of tumor 17 months postoperatively.
