Abstract
Nicergoline is a synthetic alkaloid with many effects: suppression of platelet aggregation, increase of blood flow in the brain and improvement of metabolic changes in the brain after ischemia. To determine whether it is useful in patients with vertigo due to circulatory disorders in the peripheral or central vestibular system, we investigated its clinical effects in 47 patients (15 males and 32 females) with vertigo who were over 40 years of age and whose vertigo was considered to be caused by circulatory disturbance. A dose of 15mg/day was administrated for 4 or 8 weeks.
1. The overall rate of improvement was 75.0% after 4 weeks and 92.3% after 8 weeks of treatment.
2. Side effects were noted in two patients (4.3%).
