Abstract

The purpose of this study is to conduct a systematic analysis of regional bioenergy supply potentials in Japan. For this purpose the authors developed regional biomass balance table that is a tool to grasp overall biomass flows and to evaluate discharges of biomass residues, parts of which can be used for bioenergy resources. The regional data about biomass products are available but those about the discharges of biomass residues are limited. Therefore, the authors divided the biomass balance table in the whole Japan into those in regions using both the available data of the products and the systematic biomass-balance analysis. The tables the authors developed shows the regional bioenergy potential differs greatly, and the region with the most bioenergy per capita (Hokkaido) has about three times more than the region with the least potential (Kansai).
