Clinker formation in woody biomass gasifiers often occurs due to the lack of proper indicators for evaluating ash properties. This study examined about 30 types of woody biomass used in CHP systems and found that ash melting behavior can be characterized by considering SiO₂ content in addition to K₂O and CaO. Ashes were classified into three types (Type I–III). Type I showed low clinker risk, whereas Type III exhibited low-viscosity melts and high risk. This classification provides a useful guideline for fuel selection and additive use in CHP operation.
