A method is developed which adjusts a given spectral refiectance function and generates a new function with expected tristimulus values with respect to a specified illuminant and the observer. This method has the following several features:
(1) Its computational procedure is much simpler than those found in earlier studies.
(2) By setting illuminant, observer and expected tristimulus values, spectral reflectance functions of object colors are derived, which are metameric with respect to the specified conditio ns, without any target spectral reflectance curve.
(3) Smoothed spectral reflectance functions of metameric object colors are also easily constituted, which are found in practical paint-and dye-products.
(4) The method is easily applied to constitute spectral reflectance functions of object colo rs metameric with respect to several specified combinations of illuminant and observer.
(5) For two object colors which make an incomplete metameric-match with respect to specified illuminant and observer, the present method is also applicable to establish metameric-match by adjusting one of the spectral reflectance functions
