Ebara Corporation has conducted research and development work on PICFB technology in cooperation with CCUJ through a MITI-subsidized project. The result of test on the 4MWth demonstration plant have substantiated the superior response to load control and ability to use variable type coal. Based on this PICFB technology, the present PICFG (PICF Gasifier) development project was started at the beginning of FY1998. PICFG has a char combustion, gasification, and heat recovery chamber in the single furnace. The thermal energy of char combustion can be used for the pyrolysis of coal, because the fluidizing material can easily move between the char combustion and gasification chambers, this established technology already used in PICFB. As the synthesis gas does not mix with the char combustion gas, its high calorific value is maintained.
