Heat supply technology using aerobic fermentation of woody biomass has been proposed to reduce a consumption of fossil fuels. A practical-scale fermenter was built from concrete blocks. Wood chips of larch with chicken manure were put into the fermenter, and ventilation pipes and temperature and moisture sensors were installed in the chip layer. The temperature of the chip layer rapidly increase after the start and temperature over 35℃ lasted for two months. However, when the air temperature decreased to 10℃, the temperature of the chip layer could not be maintained in a range suitable for fermentation, which indicates insufficient heat insulation of the wall.
