Abstract

This paper presents some findings obtained through the burning test of low grade fuels (bunker“C”) with the small diesel engine.
The burning tests were carried out on the small, single cylinder, four stroke cycle, open chamber diesel engine of a compression ratio of 18 to 1 and a piston displacement of 1246 cm3.
A/C blend fuels (bunker “A” + bunker “C”) and bunker “C” fuels bunkered at foreign ports (viscosity ranging 1300 to 3300 sec R.W. No. 1 at 50°C) and bunker “C” fuels produced experimentally were used for the comparative investigation of combustion performance of low grade fuels.
In the case of A/C blend fuel, it shows better combustion performance than a bunker “C”.
The A/C blend fuel which contains a bunker “A” more than 25% shows almost the same combustion performance as one of bunker “A”.
Bunker “C” fuel shows a big ignition delay and a rapid rate of heat release at the beginning of combustion compared with a bunker “A”.
