抄録

With the increasing of fuel oil prices and growing uncertainty of fuel oil supply, coal fired ships have come to the attract attention of shipping circles.
Machinery Plant Committee of The Marine Engineering Society in Japan has done the basic investigation on coal fired steam propulsion plant.
The study items are as follows.
1) Physical and chemical properties of coal
2) Coal combustion plant, such as Storker firing, Pulverized coal firing and Fluidized bed combustion system
3) Coal handling system
4) Ash handling system
5) Comparison of regulation for coal fired ship (LR, NV, ABS, NK)
