Abstract

For designing the economical propulsion plants of medium speed engines, taking into account the decreasing of operation cost, the following particulars were discussed on this paper; fuel and lub. oil consumptions, ability to burn degraded quality fuel, reliability, ability to run at part load, advantages inherent to medium speed engines and the design of economical propulsion installations. Above all, the fuel consumption of less than 130 g/ps-h which was achieved on 8PC4-2 L engine, accepting a viscosity of 600 cst for the fuel of PC engines and the full use of the recovered power systems shall be appraised for planning of medium speed engines.
