Abstract
The lubrication of a conventional crosshead-pin bearing with axial oil-grooves in a two-stroke cycle diesel engine is quite severe condition, since the bearing is always subjected to the unidirectional load with small amplitude of oscillation.
This paper reports the theoretical analyses on the lubrication characteristics for the conventional and the offset bearing. The oil-film behaviour between the two bearings is compared. Moreover, the design criteria for each bearing are investigated.
Experimental tests are carried out to examine the influence of bearing type and bearing material on anti-seizure and anti-fatigue by using a dynamic load bearing apparatus.
From the theoretical and the experimental works it is found that the bearing performance of the offset bearing is superior to that of the conventional bearing and aluminum alloy is suitable material for this kind of bearing.
