Authors had investigated the actual condition of the maritime distress (insurance accident) of the small fishing boats. The results can be summarized as follows ; 1. The maritime distress have two causes. One is the artificial direct cause, e.g. the shiphandling, the operation of an engine. The other is the material indirect cause, e.g. the condition of running area, the efficiency of an engine. 2. The probability of maritime distress are mainly influenced by the metarial indirect cause. 3. In order to prevent the maritime distress of small fishing boats, it is the most important to remove the material indirect cause.
