Using electrodes of many steel-core-rods containing three deoxidizers, manganese, silicon and aluminium, in different proportions on which were coated a flux consisting of 70% CaF2 and 30% Ca (OH)2, single V butt joints of mild steel were made, and the apparent specific gravity and mechanical properties of the deposited metals were measured. Radiographic and microscopic examinations were also carried out.
Elebtrodes containing a suitable quantity of deoxidizers in the core-rod show less. blow holes and oxide inclusoins in the deposited metals and show much better mechanical properties, especially elongation and shock value, of the deposited metals than those containing little deoxidizers in the core-rod.
The theoretical considerations for the results obtained were given.
