Abstract

The change in ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activity and S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase (SAMDC) activity of the liver, prostate, and testis were studied in rats being deficient in vitamin E (VE deficient group) and those given vitamin E (VE group). As a result, no significant changes in relation to the ODC were recognized in the enzymatic acitivity of the liver. However, it was found that the enzymatic activity of both the testis and prostate of the VE deficient group was significantly higher than that of the VE group on approximate25days after breeding was started. As for the SAMDC activity, no significant difference was noted. Thus, the effects of VE deficiency on the ODC and SAMDC activities are conceivably specific to the organs.
