This study focuses on the area affected by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake (2011). We studied a case on Kawauchi Village in Fukushima Prefecture. In the areas with high radiation levels, long-term evacuations were ordered. This study spotlights how has the community has changed since the long-term evacuation orders were lifted. In general, only a few residents returned to their original houses, and any sense of community has almost disappeared. In one household, the elderly and the younger generations decided to separate. It is inferred that the rate of people returning to their homes is lower in the areas where evacuation orders lasted longer.
