Abstract
Colloidal crystals have recently attracted worldwide interest as mass-productive photonic crystals. For evolution in fabricating colloidal crystals, researches from the crystal growth point of view should play important roles. Today, however, this situation seems not to be well recognized in the community of Japanese crystal growth research field. This paper reviews significance of colloidal crystals, unique features of the colloidal system, recent advancement in controlled growth of colloids, and, unique methods for characterization in relevance with author's works, with expecting expansion of research population in this field.
