Ferroelectric fluorides, thanks to their high transparency in the UV/VUV wavelength region, are the key materials for the second harmonic generation in the ultraviolet by the quasi phase-matching technique. BaMgF_4 is one of the promising candidates. Large single crystals are grown and their ferroelectric properties and poling characteristics are investigated.
